Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
